Dingle Peninsula’s ‘Reimagining Creatively through Digital’ project was announced as overall winner at the inaugural .IE Digital Town Awards, which took place in June.

The .IE Digital Town Awards were launched earlier this year to honour local town projects and people that have demonstrated how digital projects have contributed to digital enhancements or  improvements in areas such as health, tourism, education, public services, social entrepreneurship, citizen involvement and inclusion, and social entrepreneurship.

Reimagining creatively through digital

The focus of the Dingle team was on promoting innovation and imagining new ways of doing things through digital. Check out their inspiring story and hear about the positive impact digital has had in their community.

Dingle is an example to other towns in Ireland of what can be achieved digitally.

Dingle’s vision

Maggie Breen, Project Manager and Creativity Consultant at Dingle Hub discusses the problem they wanted to solve – young people leaving the area to go to college and not being able to return because there were no jobs.

Our overall vision is to create an ecosystem that enables the creation of viable sustainable jobs on the Peninsula.

Impact on the community

Mark Murphy, a local business owner who took part in the Digital Adapt Series run by Dingle Hub, explains the importance of a digital presence for his business. This Insta Live Digital Adapt Series came about at the beginning of lockdown when businesses had to close. The hub wanted to support the community to find ways for businesses to re-imagine themselves.

Dr Ciara Barret, a Film Workshops Facilitator talks about the benefit of being able to use the ethernet at Dingle Hub to host her workshops. Local Dairy Farmer, Dinny Galvin outlines the digital technologies that are now used on his farm.

.IE Digital Town Awards

Maggie explains that the .IE Digital Town Awards was a great opportunity to showcase the work that they have been doing around digital technologies. The prize fund will be used to expand facilities in the hub and to expand their digital reach into the community.
