Drogheda – a digital town case study

Drogheda’s ‘Getting Drogheda Digital’ project was announced as the large town category (pop. 10k+) winner at the inaugural .IE Digital Town Awards, which took place in June.

The .IE Digital Town Awards were launched earlier this year to honour local town projects and people that have demonstrated how digital projects have contributed to digital enhancements or improvements in areas such as health, tourism, education, public services, social entrepreneurship, citizen involvement and inclusion, and social entrepreneurship.

Getting Drogheda Digital

Drogheda & District Chamber created the ‘Getting Drogheda Digital’ project in 2020 to embrace new opportunities in smart technology with a focus on wider community participation.

Drogheda’s focus and vision

Robert Murray, President of Drogheda & District Chamber discusses how they wanted to help local, indigenous businesses get off the ground and digitise their business.

Ronan Whitty, The Mill Enterprise Hub, outlines their future vision – to play a leading role in the Drogheda Digital Innovation Hub which will support specialised start up digital businesses with accelerator programmes.

Impact on local businesses

Andrew Milne, The Celtic Soul Podcast, explains how working with The Mill Enterprise Hub, he was able to expand his website, get an online shop, set up a digital magazine and benefit from marketing advice and training.

Lelia Doonan, Owner of The Design Gallery, discusses how The Retail Powerhouse programme was a godsend to local retailers.

Ronan also chats about their collaboration with Tapit, an innovative digital loyalty programme, which offers instant cash rewards for people who support local businesses.
